On Friday November 13, Common Pleas Court Judge Otho Eyster sentenced three men and one woman for various crimes, according to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher.

Phillip T. Rovnak, 53, Mount Vernon, was convicted of two counts of domestic violence and sentenced to a 17 month prison term. According to Thatcher Rovnak assaulted his two sons, on June 6, and the offenses are felonies because he was previously convicted of domestic violence in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court, in 2002. Patrol Officer Jessica Butler, Mount Vernon Police Department, investigated the case.

Richard T. Thompson, 18, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to prison terms totaling 17 months for several convictions. On June 10, Thompson possessed a stolen debit card and forged the owner’s signature on a gas station receipt. Between May 19 and June 12, he made several other unauthorized purchases with the stolen debit card. Detective David Light, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, investigated the credit card case. Thompson was also convicted of burglarizing a residence, on June 16 and again on June 19, and of possessing two laptop computers, collectible coins, video games and a video game player stolen from the residence, on June 21. Detective Sergeant Gary Rohler, KCSO, investigated the burglary and stolen property cases. Finally, between June 15 and August 20, Thompson forged the handwriting on four stolen checks and burglarized two other residences. Detective Matt Dailey, MVPD, investigated the burglary cases.

Nathan R. Clark, 33, Mount Vernon, was convicted of possessing weapons while intoxicated and sentenced to a 180 day suspended jail term. Clark’s concealed carry permit will also be revoked by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. Thatcher said on March 21 at about 3:00 a.m., Trooper Matthew Them, Ohio State Highway Patrol, stopped Clark on East Vine Street for a left of center violation. During the traffic stop Clark failed the field sobriety tests, and then Trooper Them discovered two handguns in Clarks’ vehicle.

Shelby L. Woods, 29, Mount Vernon, was convicted of theft by deception for stealing pre-paid phone cards valued at $1,308.00, between October 30, 2007, and March 4, 2008, when she was employed at a gas station and convenience store, in Mount Vernon. Woods was ordered to pay restitution to her employer while she serves a three year term of community control supervision. Thatcher said Woods will serve an 11 month prison term if she fails to pay restitution, or fails to comply with the terms of her supervision including a requirement that she maintains full time employment.
