Twelve Indicted by September Grand Jury

Indictments were returned in 12 cases on September 8 by a Knox County Grand Jury. Arraignments are scheduled for September 19 at 9:00 a.m., in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas before Judge Otho Eyster.

According to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher, three Mount Vernon men were indicted as the result of incidents, on July 4 and 29, involving three females ages 12, 13 and 14. Jonathan W. Wyatt, 22, is accused of rape, corrupting juveniles with drugs, gross sexual imposition and unlawful sexual conduct with minors. David A. Baugh, 18, is charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, and Mark J. Kirk, 18, faces two counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving minors. Thatcher said, on July 4 in a local park, Wyatt allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with the 14 year old girl. On the night of July 29 in Kirk’s apartment, Wyatt and Baugh allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with the 12 and 13 year old girls while Kirk allegedly videotaped and photographed the incident. Thatcher explained that Kirk’s pandering charge accuses him of filming or photographing minors engaged in sexual activity. Wyatt also allegedly provided the 12 and 13 year old girls with Adderall, a Schedule II controlled substance, according to Thatcher.

Jeremy D. Bell, 19, Mount Vernon, is accused of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor for allegedly having sex with a 14 year old female in her home on multiple occasions beginning on November 1, 2007.

Matthew C. Clark, 35, Mount Vernon, faces charges of rape and gross sexual imposition. Thatcher said between March 1, 2005 and July 19, 2006, Clark allegedly engaged in sexual conduct and had sexual contact with a female when she was 11 and 12 years old. Detective Tom Bumpus, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, investigated the Wyatt, Baugh, Kirk, Bell and Clark cases.

Derek A. Showalter, 28, Mount Vernon, is accused of illegal processing of drug documents. On August 19 at a Mount Vernon pharmacy, Showalter gave a prescription to the pharmacist allegedly altered to change the quantity of Percocets from 16 to 160. Thatcher said Showalter tried to fill the prescription earlier that day at a Utica pharmacy, but the pharmacist refused to fill it. Detective Craig Feeney, Mount Vernon Police Department, investigated the case.

In less than two years, Shawn M. Beaver, 34, Fredericktown, allegedly saw 58 doctors and went to 24 pharmacies to fill prescriptions for Percocets and other controlled drugs. Thatcher said Beaver now faces 12 counts of deception to obtain dangerous drugs. Sergeant Tom Durbin, KCSO, investigated the case.

The night of August 16 while patrolling the parking lot of a local bar, Patrolman Kyle Theibert, MVPD, allegedly observed Miguel Reyes-Gonzalez, 37, pull from his pocket a small plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance and then place it on the hood of a car. Patrolman Theibert observed Charles W. Edmister, 21, Mount Vernon, with Reyes-Gonzalez at the time, and Edmister allegedly confessed to Theibert that he and Reyes-Gonzalez had intended to do a line of cocaine in the parking lot before they were caught. Both men are charged with possession of cocaine.

On ten occasions during the months of June and July, Bryant K. Hobgood, 37, Mount Vernon, allegedly stole approximately 765 pounds of copper wire from his employer, in Johnstown. Thatcher said Hobgood allegedly sold the stolen copper wire for $2,116.90 to a Mount Vernon scrap dealer. Detective Feeney investigated the case.

Holly R. Frost, 27, Mount Vernon, is charged with allegedly writing eight checks on a closed checking account, between June 2 and 6. Thatcher said Frost allegedly passed the bad checks totaling $1,162.31 at the same Centerburg area business. Deputy J.P. Paul, KCSO, investigated the case.

On July 23, Tamra N. Newton, 27, Danville, allegedly stole a blank check from another Danville resident and then forged his name on the check when she cashed it at a Mount Vernon bank in the amount of $1,000.00. Thatcher said the alleged theft was discovered when the victim found out unexpectedly that his account was overdrawn. Patrolman Scott McKnight, MVPD, investigated the case.
