Soil & Water Conservation District

FFA Contests

Every year, Knox SWCD partners with local ag teachers to put on county-wide contests in forestry and soils. These contests give the students valuable practice for the District competitions that follow. For the forestry competition, students are asked to grade 10 predetermined trees as if they were a timber buyer or forester. In the soils competition, students are able to choose to grade 3 soil pits through an urban development lens or an agricultural lens. There is also a test pit for the students to practice on before the contest. The highest scoring team and the highest scoring individuals are recognized at the SWCD Annual Banquet.
